Important: If you have been injured you need to get an adjustment ASAP to immediately realign the injured area — this stops the swelling right away. After 12–24 hours inflammation sets in and the swelling further injures the soft tissue causing more damage.

Chiropractic Adjustment

Remember: It usually takes 12-72 hours for the inflammation or swelling from an injury to reach the point where you actually start feeling pain. The delayed reaction time can be very confusing when trying to understand how you were injured or what you did. My rule of thumb is to think back to what you were doing 1-3 days ago to help discover what the cause was. I usually can tell the patient after I treat them what movement caused the injury because the spine “freezes” or gets stuck in the position of injury. The body stops you by freezing up — commonly called antalgia — and it is a protective mechanism to stop you from further injuring that area.
